Celebrating Read Across America and Dr. Seuss
In Celebration of Dr Seuss's Birthday, I and my art students take the time to create our favorite Dr. Seuss Characters. All of our characters are drawn by hand and colored with colored pencils in traditonial Dr. Seuss colors. Here are just some samples of our creativity. Stop by the down stairs hall ways and see more of our colorful work. Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!!

Accelerated Reader and STAR Reading
Students in first through fifth grades have the opportunity to improve their reading skills through the use of the Accelerated Reader Program. 
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a tool that allows students to practice their reading comprehension skills by taking a short quiz on the computer after reading a book.
STAR Reading is a reading test that students recently took in the library. Results will be sent home during the month of October. These results include a reading range that will help students select books to read that are appropriately challenging.

Physical Education Big Ridge parents, students, and staff have the wonderful opportunity to participate in some exciting new health initiatives this year. You will be hearing about many of those in the coming weeks and months. However, let me take this time to introduce you to a great website where you can download a physical activity calendar for every month. The whole family can get involved! There is an activity calendar for Early Childhood (preschool and Kindergarten), for Elementary, and for adults (Ten At A Time).
